Launched in 2024 in connection with its sponsorship of the YellaWood 500 NASCAR Cup Series race at Talladega Superspeedway, the Five-Star Hero program celebrates the American spirit of courage, service and selflessness. It recognizes everyday Americans who put others first, serve their communities and embody the values that make our country strong. From military members and first responders to educators, volunteers and neighbors who step up when others need them, these individuals remind us of the best of America and what it means to be a good neighbor and a proud American.

Each year, Great Southern Wood Preserving, the maker of YellaWood® brand pressure-treated lumber, invites its treating plants to nominate local heroes from the communities they serve. From those nominations, outstanding individuals are selected for recognition, with one named the national Five-Star Hero. Through the program, YellaWood® honors those who make a difference in the lives of others and celebrates the patriotism, generosity and commitment to community that bring Americans together.
